Saint Leo University is affiliated with the Catholic Church and the Order of Saint Benedict. The university and its associated abbey are both named after Pope Leo the Great, who was the Bishop of Rome around 1,500 years ago. Established in 1889, the school bears the distinction as the first Roman Catholic college in the State of Florida.
