The University of Louisiana Monroe is located in Monroe, Louisiana, and is part of the University of Louisiana system of colleges. The university was founded in 1931 and was once known as the Ouachita Parish Junior College. Shortly after its establishment, the school would become known as the Northeast Center of Louisiana State University. Four-year degrees would be offered for the first time in 1950, and the school would begin offering doctoral degrees in 1969 when it was elevated to university status.
