The University of Toledo is a public research university in Toledo, Ohio. The school was founded in 1872 where it was originally meant to be a vocational training institute. The early 20th century saw rapid expansion for the university, which has continued to grow into a respected academic institute with a reputation for experimentation, research, and excellence in academics.
The University of Toledo also has a popular athletics program. The Toledo Rockets play in the Mid-American Conference, for which it holds nine championship titles. University of Toledo Application Requirements
Undergraduate students can apply with the online University of Toledo application or by using the common application. Recent high school graduates must have completed a minimum of our years of English and math and three years of natural and social sciences. Students are expected to have taken either the ACT or SAT. They must have a high school GPA of at least 2.0. Along with the completed application, undergraduate hopefuls must supply their high school transcripts.
Students who are applying to certain programs, such as pre-med or pre-dental, may have additional requirements in order to be accepted into their preferred program.
Prospective graduate students must supply the online application, GRE/GMAT scores, undergraduate transcripts and letters of recommendation. Applicants may have additional requirements depending on the field of the graduate degree.
The University of Toledo does offer a wholly online degree program. Students interested in attending the university online can complete an application directly on the university website.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The cost of attending the University of Toledo is dependent upon the level of degree and whether or not the student is an Ohio resident.
Undergraduate students who are Ohio residents are charged a rate of $5,070.45 per semester. This rate covers 12 to 18 hours of classes and mandatory fees. In addition to tuition, students may be charged optional fees for the learning community, legal services, parking, and the student green fund. Certain colleges and degree programs within the University of Toledo may have additional fees as well.
Out-of-state students are charged $9750.45 for full-time tuition per semester. These students may be charged the same additional fees as Ohio residents, but they pay these fees at the same rates.
Graduate students who are Ohio residents are charged a fee of $7633.44 per semester for a full-time course load of up to 15 hours. Out-of-state graduate students are charged $12,934.80.
Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for any grants or need-based scholarships. The FAFSA is also used for work-study programs and most student loans.
First-time students are considered for automatic scholarships whether they are in- or out-of-state students. These scholarships vary from $1,000 to $6,000 per year. They are renewable for those students who earn at least 27 credits per year and maintain a GPA of at least 2.75. The most coveted scholarship at the University of Toledo is the Presidential Scholarship. This four-year award covers the cost of full-time tuition for eight semesters, room and board, general fees and includes a one-time $3,000 stipend. The Presidential Scholarship is awarded to students who have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.8 and an ACT score of at least 30. They must also complete the Presidential Scholarship application and visit the University of Toledo for an on-campus interview.
