About East Carolina University
East Carolina University was chartered in 1907 by an act of the state government and was initially called the East Carolina Teachers Training School. All of the graduates of the school were women until 1932, even though the school was always meant as an institution for men and women. The school would transform into a four-year institution of higher learning in 1920 and would add its first graduate degree program in 1933.
Today, the university has more than 29,000 students enrolled, with the majority of those students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs. The main campus in Greenville covers 530 acres, and the university also has additional campuses in town that are known as the Health Sciences Campus and the West Research Campus. In all, the university’s campuses cover more than 1,380 acres. The university’s official colors are gold and purple.

East Carolina University has earned regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which authorizes the university to award college degrees. Admission to undergraduate programs at East Carolina University requires that students complete several core classes while still in high school, as well as complete several standard application steps. Required application items include an online application, a non-refundable fee of $75.00, and official high school transcripts. Students should also have their standardized test scores delivered to the university and have their final academic transcripts sent after graduation.
To apply to one of the university’s graduate programs, students should have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. In addition to standard application items like the official application and the application fee, most of the graduate programs at East Carolina University require supplemental items like letters of recommendation, a resume, and a statement of purpose. Tuition and Financial Aid
North Carolina residents who attend undergraduate school at East Carolina University will pay $4,452.00 for tuition, and out-of-state students will pay $20,729.00 for tuition. University fees add an additional $2,787.00 to the total, and all students pay the same amount of fees regardless of their residency status.
