About University of Denver
The University of Denver rose out of the Colorado frontier, founded as the Colorado Seminary in 1864. This was only six years after Denver City was founded in what was then Colorado Territory. Initially, Denver was a gold rush boom town with only 3,000 inhabitants. Not long after it opened, due to financial issues, the Colorado Seminary shut down. It reopened as the University of Denver in 1880. Ground was broken on the current campus in 1890.
The University of Denver established one of the first business schools in the United States as well as the first school of social work west of the Mississippi. Today, the University of Denver offers a rigorous and rewarding education, using a holistic approach to learning. It is ranked among the top five universities in the country by US News & World Report and around 70 percent of students participate in the study abroad program. The University of Denver is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. This indicates that the school undergoes periodic review by the Commission to confirm they continue to offer students the highest quality education based on standards set forth by the Commission. University of Denver Application Requirements
Undergraduates who wish to attend the University of Denver must complete the Pioneer Application or the Common App. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities as well as official SAT or ACT scores. Students who are over 24 years old and been out of high school more than three years may submit a letter of recommendation from an employer if they do not have college credit after high school graduation.
Transfer students must submit an application along with a 250-500 word open-topic essay. They must also provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Students who do not have 30 semester or 45 quarter credits must also submit official high school transcripts and official SAT or ACT scores. Business applicants must provide a current resume as well. Some programs require auditions or portfolios as part of the application process.
Graduate applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. The minimum undergraduate GPA is a cumulative 2.5 for the last 60 semester credits attempted. Students must maintain a 3.0 in all graduate work. Some programs may require official GMAT, LSAT, GRE or MAT scores for admission.
University of Denver Tuition & Financial Aid
Tuition at the University of Denver is $1,426 per credit hour for undergraduate, graduate and professional courses. The Business Executive MBA tuition is $14,600 per quarter and the Business Executive Ph.D. program is $125,000 for the entire degree.
Financial aid is available and the Office of Financial Aid works directly with students to help them finance their education. They provide resources, guidance, and advice on the types of financial aid available, including grants, scholarships, loans, and employment options.
Undergraduate students are eligible for grants and scholarships through the University as well as federal and state government. There are also private scholarships and grants available. They may also qualify for work-study programs which allow students to work on campus to offset the cost of their education. Loans are also available to cover the cost of tuition. Graduate students may be eligible for grants and scholarships offered through individual schools as well as work-study in the form of fellowships or assistantships. Loans are also available. In order to qualify for any financial assistance, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and it must be renewed on an annual basis.
